Church Boards & Committees

A short description of the Boards and Committees of the Greenbelt Community Church are presented below along with their normal meeting schedule. Some boards and committees have individual pages which may be accessed by clicking on their title

The Church Council brings together Officers, Board representatives and at-large representatives to coordinate activities and make decisions which are beyond the authority of any one board. The Church Council meets the third Thursday of March, May, September, and November in the church office at 7:30 p.m.

The Board of Christian Education oversees the educational program for the children, plans the summer program, Easter party, and the Christmas Pagaent. The Board of Christian Education meets the second Sunday of the month in the Social Hall after worship.

The Board of Missions directs gifts to mission projects reflecting the congregation's priorities, promotes mission giving and involves members in sheltering the homeless, the CROP walk against hunger, and Christmas in April home repair for those in need. The Board of Missions meets the first Tuesday of the month in the church office at 8:00 p.m.

The Board of Worship prepares and serves communion, oversees special services, enlists ushers, and plans and conducts Wednesday evening creative worship during Lent. The Board of Worship meets the last Thursday of the month in the church office at 7:30 p.m.

The Board of Congregational Life conducts fundraisers such as the Spring Yard Sale, Labor Day Luncheon on the Lawn, and the Fall Bazaar. The Board also supervises fellowship groups and sponsors other social activities as creativity and energy permit. The Board of Congregational Life meets the second Thursday of the month in the church office at 7:30 p.m.

The Board of Trustees prepares the budget, manages the church's property, and organizes work days to repair and improve the church building The Board of Trustees meets the second Sunday of the month in the church office at 7:00 p.m.

The Memorial Committee plants and tends the memorial grove, organizes work days, and keeps track of memorial gifts to the church.

Learning Community Committee organizes the adult learning groups and puts out a catalog of offerings.

Communications and Membership Committee tends to activities directed to the church as a family. They organize greeters to start each worship service, send cards to those who are sick or who are away, and help welcome potential new members. The committee also maintains this website, publishes the church newsletter and the directory of members, and coordinates publicity in the community about church activities. The group meets the second Tuesday of each month, or more frequently as needed.
